2003/04 tax year loss – Claim now before you lose the right
Did you know the time limit for claiming a tax refund is being reduced?
Under the current rules, you can claim back overpaid tax for up to 5 years and 10 months from the end of a tax year in which you paid too much tax. This means that to claim back tax from the 2003/04 tax year you must make the claim for refund by 31st January 2010.
Most people believe H M Revenue automatically sends them a refund if they have paid too much tax, or they believe that because they are employed, their employer automatically deducts the correct amount of tax from their wages or salaries.
